Student answer (Band 5.5)
In this digital era, learning a foreign language became so easy that people can learn any language while sitting on their couch. Some people belive that it only helps in order to travel to or work in a foreign country, while others say that its not the only reason. This essay will discuss both the views including my opinion.
To learn a foreign language, it requires discipline and curiosity. In fact, there is a lot of difference in learning new spoken language within the national boundaries and a completely foreign language with negative native speakers locally. In spite of, it can be very helpful upon travelling in foreign boundries to communicate with others. In addition, the work can be done more quickly, effectively and effieciently if there are no language barriers between employee and employer. Although, it not just helps in order to travel, it also open many windows of opportunity like job openings in many industries, study abroad in top rated universities and scholarships from the national government.
Moreover, it allows to blend into their cultural or regional communities and its activities. People who can speak foreign languges, also can understand the feelings of foreigners more deeply then the ones who have not learned it yet. Additionally, by understanding the foreign language, the one also can be helpful to someone who needs help. However, it is useless against the people who speaks in the mothertongue.
In my opinion, there is no drawback to learn a foreign language, but give more options in career and opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both views and give a personal position, especially by noting travel and workplace communication before arguing that language learning also creates career, study and cultural opportunities. However, the discussion is only partially developed: the point about “negative native speakers locally” is unclear, and the claim that learning is “useless against the people who speaks in the mothertongue” is not explained or clearly connected to the question. Your opinion appears mainly at the end and is brief. The response is also 245 words, five words below the 250-word minimum; the 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each view with a clear example and explain how it supports your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and signposts such as “In addition,” “Moreover” and “In my opinion” help show the intended structure. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven: the second paragraph moves from travel and work to job openings, study and scholarships without clearly distinguishing the reasons, while the third introduces an unclear contrast about mother-tongue speakers. Some linking is mechanical or awkward, including “In spite of” and the sentence beginning “Although” after a full stop. To improve, organise each paragraph around one main point, connect examples explicitly to that point, and use referencing and transitions that make the relationships between ideas clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “language barriers,” “cultural or regional communities,” “job openings” and “scholarships,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes make meaning unclear: “negative native speakers locally,” “foreign boundries,” and “blend into their cultural or regional communities.” Spelling errors such as “belive,” “effieciently” and “languges” are noticeable. Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe the practical value of language skills in travel and employment directly rather than using unclear phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, using clauses introduced by “if,” “although” and “who.” However, control is inconsistent, and frequent errors sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “learning a foreign language became” where the tense is unsuitable, “it also open” instead of a correctly inflected verb, and “the people who speaks” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect. The sentence “In spite of, it can be very helpful” has faulty construction, and “Although, it not just helps” is incomplete and incorrectly punctuated. Practise building accurate complex sentences, checking agreement and verb forms, and avoid placing a full stop before a dependent “although” clause.
