Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, some people mindset about learning a foreign language is that the only reason behind it is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country while some other say that these are not the particular reason why someone should learn a foreign language.I will discuss both the views and give my opinion as well.

On one hand, according to some people view the main purpose of learning a foreign language is to travel because in abroad ons's country language is not applicable so in such cases learning a foreign language is benefical for communication and buying items because in some countries international language english is also not much popular and citizens of that particular country only know their native language so in order to work in a foreign country language is essential. For example there are many countries where good paying work are only in their motherland language like germany where for field work you have learn german language and it varies company to company.

On other hand, few people believe that there are many other reasons of learning foreign language as it is some people interest of learning many language for the sake of their interest .For example, my friend learn 4 language just because of her interest in foreign languages .So it is not compulsory that someone should have to learn language only for travelling and working purpose.

In conclusion, my prespective is that many people main reason behind learning a foreign language is to reduce language barrier if they travel or work abroad but some also learn for their interest as well but for those who are students

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state your own position, so the response is relevant to the question. The first body paragraph explains how language helps with communication, shopping and employment abroad, and the Germany example gives this view some support. The second paragraph introduces personal interest as another reason, but this side is less developed: the example of your friend learning four languages is not explained further. Your conclusion begins to restate both positions, but ends with “but for those who are students,” leaving your final point incomplete and your opinion insufficiently clear. Develop the non-travel reasons and finish with a complete, direct conclusion. The response meets the required length; 12 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion. The signposts “On one hand,” “On other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the basic organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several ideas are joined into long sentences, particularly the explanation of travel, communication and work. Some linking is repetitive or mechanical, and the conclusion stops before completing its final idea, weakening the overall progression. Use clearer sentence boundaries, connect each example explicitly to the point it supports, and ensure the final paragraph provides a complete ending.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “language barrier,” “native language,” “communication,” and “foreign country.” These choices make the main subject clear, and “language barrier” is an effective phrase. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “some people mindset,” “in abroad,” and “good paying work.” Spelling errors, including “benefical” and “prespective,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural academic phrasing and check spelling carefully. For example, use “some people believe” rather than “some people mindset,” and “well-paid jobs” rather than “good paying work.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “because” and “that,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in sentence structure and verb forms appear in examples such as “my friend learn 4 language” and “you have learn german language.” There are also problems with articles, agreement and plurals, as in “the main purpose … is to travel” followed by “in abroad ons's country language,” and “good paying work are.” Punctuation and spacing are also unreliable, with commas attached to the following words and several sentences running on. Practise building shorter, accurate sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check subject–verb agreement, articles and verb forms.
