Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is believed by a group of people that the only reason for learning a foreign language in a foreign country is in order to travel or work, While others claim that these are not the only reason for learning a foreign language. In my opinion mostly people learn a different language for to travel or work but some people learns a foreign language for education purposes or it's their hobby.

On the one hand, majority of the people when travelling to a foreign country on work visa they learn their foreign language. For instance, Germans used their own language in working space so it's mandatory for people to get a job there holding atleast a B2 level language certificate. Even the drivers in Germany speaks german when you book a ride as a foreigner, that's why most of people when travel to germany they learn german lanuage.

On the other hand, some people learn foriegn language for getting higher education in other country or for some people it's their hobby. For example, in some foriegn universities when applying for a scholarship, it's mandatory that's students holds a band 7 IELTS certificate. Oxford accepts the students for masters with atleast a band 7 in IELTS. For some people they spend their time on learning new languages because it's makes them happy.

To conclude, many people learns foreign laguage for work and to travel to a foreign country but some of the people also learns for getting higher education from a foreign country and some people love speaking different languages

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You discuss both views and give a personal position: you say that people mainly learn languages for travel or work, while others do so for education or enjoyment. The examples about working in Germany, university admission and learning as a hobby are relevant. However, the ideas are brief and sometimes unclear; for example, the IELTS requirement is presented as a reason to learn a foreign language without explaining how it supports the education view. Your conclusion repeats the main points rather than developing your opinion. The response also contains 242 words, which is 8 words below the required minimum; 17 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each reason with clearer explanation and a specific example, and state your view more decisively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted with “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the two perspectives. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weak: the Germany example moves from workplace language to taxi drivers without clearly linking both details to the main point. The final paragraph largely repeats the introduction and does not bring the discussion together. Some linking is also awkward, as in “For example” followed by the university example, which needs a clearer connection to the claim about education. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph’s main idea explicit, linking examples directly to it, and using references and transitions more precisely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “work visa,” “language certificate,” “scholarship,” and “hobby.” These choices show some awareness of the subject. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors are noticeable, such as “working space,” “foreign laguage,” “foriegn,” and “atleast.” Repeated use of “foreign language” and “learn” also makes the response less varied. Some expressions are imprecise, including “get a job there holding” a certificate. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. You could vary repeated wording with terms such as “acquire another language” or “language proficiency,” where they fit the meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning “when” and “because,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors occur frequently in sentence structure and agreement. For example, “most of the people when travel” lacks a clear grammatical construction, while “the drivers … speaks” and “some people learns” have subject–verb agreement errors. Other problems include “for to travel,” “it's mandatory that's students holds,” and the comma splice in the opening sentence. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise forming complete clauses, matching verbs to their subjects, and punctuating sentences; then proofread for articles and plural forms.
