Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You state a position—“I personally side with [the] latter viewpoint”—and give relevant reasons for learning languages beyond travel or work, including communicating with relatives, enjoying another culture, and helping visitors. However, the response does not adequately discuss both views: the opening mentions travel and employment, but the supporting paragraph mainly lists reasons for learning languages, while “But other people also think…” is unfinished and does not explain the opposing perspective. The response also ends with an incomplete phrase, so the argument and opinion are not developed. The response is 178 words, below the required 250. To improve, explain each view in a complete paragraph, support the points with specific examples, and finish with a clear conclusion that restates your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is an attempt to organise the response using “On the one hand” and “But,” and the opening signals your opinion. These features give the reader a basic sense of the intended structure. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the first body paragraph combines several different points in one long sentence, linked repeatedly by “and also.” The second body paragraph, “But other people also think they good at there place,” is too incomplete to develop the contrast, and “in con co” does not provide a meaningful conclusion. Use separate paragraphs for the two views and your opinion, connect each main idea to its explanation, and use linking expressions selectively so the relationships between points are clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “foreign language,” “conversation,” “culture,” “job,” and “study opportunities.” These choices show that you can identify useful subject-related terms. However, frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word choices make several parts hard to understand, for example “commanly,” “indivisual,” “Oppopnent contemted,” and “realiotive.” Some expressions are also unclear or unnatural, such as “injoy with them” and “good at there place.” Build accuracy with common topic vocabulary before trying more complex phrasing, and check spelling carefully. For example, use “relatives,” “communicate,” and “enjoy learning about another culture” to express your ideas more clearly and naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to express connected ideas using conditional and reason clauses, as in “if we have relatives in foreign…” and “if he does not know how speak…,” and you use a basic contrast between the views. However, sentence structures are often incomplete or difficult to follow. In “if he does not know how speak there language how would he interact with them,” the infinitive needs “to,” and the question is not punctuated or framed clearly. The opening also has an incomplete construction: “the only reason… is in the other to travel or work.” The long body sentence contains several clauses without clear sentence boundaries, while the final lines are fragments. Practise complete subject–verb sentences, articles and prepositions, and divide complex ideas into shorter, correctly punctuated sentences.
