Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is being said by some people that studying an abroad language can only be useful in travelling or if a person has to work in a foreign nation. On contrast, many individuals believe that there are more than one reason to learn about new language. However, adapting a new language could be beneficial for personal growth and in professional career. I will discuss about both the aspects with an example in below paragraph, and I will give my personal opinion at the end.

Initially, most of the people eager to learn about a new language when they have to go to abroad for travel. Therefore, by learning a basic words or sentences of that country's language can be used for communicating with native public of that nation, also it can avoid uneccessary misunderstanding happens when we try to communicate with the people. For example, if a tourist need to buy a dairy products in local shop, then the person can easily communicate, if he has a basic knowledge of foreign langauge and it makes conversation more efficient. Secondly, many adults get job in abroad, it is worth to learn a language because it can help to improve individual's personal and professional growth in front of other employee and also can be a sign of professionalism. For example, I have a basic knowledge about Spanish, and when I went to Spain for my internship. collegues acknowledged my fluency skills in Spanish and they were impressed. As a result, studying a language just for traveling and working are not only benefits, it as vast number of advantages.

Some people says that learning a language has lots of advantage. Firstly, by learning a new language can gain the confidence, and can also be able to help to grow interpersonality skills. Secondly, many people wants to know about other nation's culture, and to analyse on their culture. Their language could be more useful than other things, because if we have great knowledge of country's language then we can analyse their authentic cultural books in native language and we can easily find our aspects, which we want to know. Moreover, some students learn about different language because there are many international competitions available around the world, and students take part in it. Which initially grow their standards in life. Thus, there have been many unseen advantages there, which indirectly helps to a person.

To conclude, by discussing both the views. I believe there is not just a single benfit of learning, we have plenty of them. However, it depends on the situation and the person, why they want to learn and what are the reasons because we need an aim or a reason to learn about new language, which could benefits us in anyway.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views: the first body paragraph explains language learning for travel and work, while the next gives broader reasons such as confidence, cultural understanding, and participation in international competitions. Your opinion is present in the introduction and conclusion, where you argue that there are multiple benefits and that motives depend on the learner. However, the discussion is uneven: the travel and work examples are more concrete, while the points about confidence and competitions are asserted rather than clearly explained. The claim that language study supports professional growth also overlaps with the first view rather than fully distinguishing the broader reasons. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and make your position more consistent throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Initially,” “Secondly,” and “Moreover” help signal the development of points. However, some linking is mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always clear. For example, “As a result, studying a language just for traveling and working are not only benefits” does not clearly follow from the internship example. The second body paragraph also shifts quickly from confidence to culture and competitions without showing how these points connect. The conclusion begins with the fragment “To conclude, by discussing both the views.” Use fewer formulaic transitions and build clearer links between each claim, its explanation, and its example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “misunderstanding,” “professional growth,” “authentic cultural books,” and “international competitions,” which helps communicate several relevant ideas. You also attempt less common expressions, but some choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “abroad language,” “native public,” “fluency skills,” and “grow their standards.” Spelling errors, including “uneccessary,” “langauge,” and “benfit,” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they make parts of the response less precise and fluent. Focus on natural word partnerships and check spelling; for instance, use “foreign language,” “local people,” and “language proficiency.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if he has a basic knowledge” and clauses introduced by “because” and “which.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “many of the people eager to learn,” which needs a finite verb, and “Some people says,” where the subject and verb do not agree. The sentence beginning “Firstly, by learning a new language can gain the confidence” lacks a clear subject, while “To conclude, by discussing both the views” is a sentence fragment. Articles, plurals, and punctuation also need attention. Practise building complete sentences with an explicit subject and verb, and check agreement and sentence boundaries during revision.
