Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You present a position—supporting the view that language learning is mainly for travel and work—and give relevant points about employment, cultural understanding and overseas study. However, the discussion does not fully address both views: the second body paragraph focuses on studying abroad and the cost of education, rather than clearly explaining broader reasons for learning a language beyond travel or work. The cost point is also not developed as a reason to learn a language. Your examples, such as foreign companies offering jobs and scholarships, are brief and sometimes unclear. To strengthen the response, explain each side directly, develop the reasons with clearer cause-and-effect, and make your opinion consistent with the discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “On the other hand” help show a change of direction. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear, and some linking phrases do not express the intended relationship. For example, “In contrast” introduces the cost of studying, although this does not clearly contrast with the preceding point about scholarships. The conclusion repeats the introduction without bringing the two views together. References such as “these costs” and “this trend” are also not always precise. Organise each body paragraph around one clear view, then connect each reason and example explicitly; use fewer, more accurate transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “foreign language,” “job opportunity,” “culture and tradition,” “university” and “scholarship,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand, such as “merely reason,” “visit to,” “overseas language” and “tourist palce.” Repetition of “foreign language” and “another country” also limits flexibility. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling, while choosing precise terms for the point you mean. For example, distinguish learning a language for employment from the separate benefit of communicating with local people while travelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning “While,” “because” and “which,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentence patterns are faulty: “While others say…” is a fragment, “I agree with the first trend is important” combines incompatible structures, and “learning overseas language is help” has an incorrect verb construction. Agreement and articles also cause problems, as in “foreign company offer” and “many foreign university.” These errors sometimes make the intended relationships hard to follow. Practise building complete sentences with one clear main clause, then add subordinate clauses accurately. Check subject–verb agreement, articles and verb forms before submitting.
