Student answer (Band 4.5)
Nowadays, more and more people believe that only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to work in a foreign country. While other individuals think that the these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language. I believe that learning a foreign language has several benefits.
On the one hand, more and more individual learn foreing languages because they want to travel or work in another country. firstly, knowing the local language makes communication easier. peolpe can talk with local individual, ask for directions and understand their culture. Secondly, it can help peolpe get better job oppertunities in foreing countries. For example, many students learn English or study and work abroad.
On the other tand, travelling and working are not the only reasons to learn a foreign language. Firstly, learning about differents cultures and traditions, and also make new friends from differents countries. this can helps for more and more individuals improved communication skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You give a relevant opinion—“learning a foreign language has several benefits”—and begin to discuss both reasons for learning, including travel/work and cultural understanding. However, the response is very brief and the discussion is only minimally developed: the first view has a couple of basic points, while the second is mentioned without a clear explanation or supporting example. The example about students learning English to study or work abroad does not fully illustrate the wider benefits you claim. The response contains 136 words, so it is 114 words short of the 250-word minimum; 26 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To address the task more fully, explain each view, support the points with specific examples, and state your opinion more clearly in a developed conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening paragraph is followed by paragraphs beginning “On the one hand” and “On the other hand.” These signposts help readers recognise the two views. However, the ideas within the paragraphs are brief and the overall progression is incomplete; the response ends without a conclusion that brings the discussion and your opinion together. Sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “Secondly” are used, but the links between claims and explanations are not always clear, and the second view is compressed into one sentence. Develop each paragraph around a main point, explain how it supports the view, and use clear references and transitions to connect the ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “communication,” “local language,” “culture,” “job opportunities,” and “traditions.” This gives you enough basic language to communicate the main subject. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “people,” “learn,” and “foreign language.” Spelling errors such as “foreing,” “peolpe,” and “oppertunities,” along with inaccurate forms such as “differents,” make the writing less clear and controlled. Some expressions are also imprecise, for example “help people get better job opportunities.” Build a wider set of accurate topic vocabulary and check spelling and word forms carefully; more precise phrasing will help you explain the benefits rather than simply list them.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some sentence variety, including a contrast structure with “While” and sequencing clauses with “because” and “that.” Most of the message can be understood, but control is uneven and several sentences contain errors in agreement, articles, or sentence construction. For example, “more and more individual learn” needs a plural subject and verb, while “this can helps” combines an incorrect modal construction with faulty agreement. The opening “While other individuals think…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence, and “learning about differents cultures and traditions, and also make new friends” does not form a complete, parallel clause. Practise complete sentences and accurate subject–verb agreement, and use a wider range of structures only when you can control them.
