Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people argue that primary reason for learning a foreign language was either to travel or work on a foreign land however some justifies that there are other different reasons why someone should learn a new foreign language.
I would stand with the people in favour that there are several distinct reasons for learning a foreign language instead of sole purpose of traveling or working in a foreign country due to the reasons I discuss over this essay.
People in favour of other reasons to learn a foreign language argue that learning new dialect helps them be more creative and spent their time more productively. In addition to that, these people put lot of emphasis on how they feel as a global citizen after learning it. However some people believe that learning a new language often help them feel connected to people from different culture in a foreign land. However some people who move to foreign land for higher studies feels the urge to learn the language to communicate more efficiently in countries where the regional dialects are more dominant such as China and some part of Europe. In addition to that other portion of the people enjoys learning new dialect to join some events and clubs associated with the language and its country. While these are some several reasons that often appears in the mind while thinking about reasons for learning a foreign language.
However, I feel as the boundaries for interaction and communication have lessen in the era of social media and networking sites, learning a new foreign language often helps us understand people belonging to the culture in more appropriate manner while it also improves our understanding of our mother tongue and its culture instead of dividing each other upon the language.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You state a clear opinion: you support learning languages for reasons beyond travel or work, and you give relevant examples such as cultural understanding, communication with people from other cultures, and joining language-related events. However, the discussion is uneven. The view that travel and employment are reasons for learning a language is introduced in the opening but receives little explanation or example, so one part of the task is only partially developed. Several points in the main paragraph also overlap, and the claim that language learning makes people “more creative” is not explained. To strengthen the response, explain the practical case for travel and work, then develop fewer additional reasons with a specific example for each.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an identifiable structure, moving from an introduction to supporting reasons and then to your own view. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “In addition to that” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within the long third paragraph is difficult to follow: it shifts from creativity to global citizenship, cultural connection, study, and clubs without clearly grouping or ranking these points. Repeated transitions such as “However” and “In addition to that” sometimes feel mechanical, and the final paragraph introduces a related but not fully connected point about social media and understanding one’s mother tongue. Use one paragraph for each view, with clear topic sentences and more precise links between examples and claims.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “global citizen,” “communicate more efficiently,” “regional dialects,” and “culture,” which helps convey relevant ideas. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “distinct reasons” and “boundaries for interaction.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “foreign land” is repeated where “foreign country” would be more idiomatic, “spent their time more productively” does not fit the intended meaning, and “other portion of the people” is awkward. “Dialect” is also used where “language” seems intended. Aim for precise, natural collocations and avoid repeating the same terms; this would make the vocabulary more flexible and accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while” and “after,” and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction recur. For example, “learning new dialect helps them be more creative and spent” mixes verb forms, while “these people … feels” and “other portion … enjoys” have subject–verb agreement problems. The opening sentence also lacks clear punctuation between its contrasting clauses, and “the boundaries … have lessen” uses an incorrect verb form. These issues sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Check each sentence for a clear subject and matching verb, and proofread complex sentences for tense and clause boundaries.
