Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response recognises both views and includes a concluding sentence, so it makes an attempt to address the discussion. However, the ideas are only minimally explained and the writer’s own opinion is not clearly stated. Most of the first body paragraph repeats that a foreign language helps people travel and talk to others, without giving a specific reason or example. The opposing view is introduced in “these are not the only reason,” but the explanation that learning is “easy” does not show what other purposes might be. To develop the response, explain both positions with distinct reasons, add a relevant example, and state clearly which view you support. The 22 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt at an essay structure: an opening, discussion of the travel-related view, a paragraph introducing the other view, and a conclusion. This gives the reader some indication of the intended progression. However, ideas within the main paragraph are repeatedly restated rather than developed, as in the repeated claims that people can travel, speak, and understand others. Connections between sentences are often unclear, and the conclusion repeats the two views without resolving them. Use one focused paragraph for each view, with a clear topic sentence and supporting explanation, then link the ideas with simple, accurate transitions. Clearer paragraph development and less repetition would make the argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The response uses a small set of relevant words, including “foreign language,” “travel,” “work,” and “understand,” so the general topic can be recognised. However, vocabulary is highly repetitive, and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “best them to travel” and “best idea of the travel” do not express a clear meaning, while “speedly to talk” appears to mean speaking quickly or fluently. Spelling errors such as “foiegn,” “Evry,” and “under stand” also reduce control. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for purposes of language learning, such as cultural understanding, education, and communication, and check spelling and word combinations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The writer attempts to form simple statements and some longer sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent and the range of structures remains limited. Errors in agreement and sentence formation appear in “Some people says” and “This people can learning,” while articles and prepositions are often missing or misplaced, as in “work in foreign country.” Several sentences combine clauses without a clear grammatical relationship, making the intended meaning hard to follow. Punctuation and spacing around commas and full stops are also inconsistent. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and basic sentence patterns first; then build longer sentences using clear connectors such as “because” and “for example.”
