Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You attempt to discuss both views and give an opinion, but the response only partly addresses the question. The opening suggests that people learn languages for travel or work, while the alternative is described mainly as studying abroad; it does not explain broader reasons such as cultural interest or communicating with others. Your position is also unclear: “In my opinion” introduces two contrasting claims without stating which view you support. The examples are brief and do not develop the reasons, and the conclusion mostly repeats the introduction. The response is 186 words, so it is 64 words below the 250-word minimum; 77 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each view with a clear reason and a relevant example, then state your opinion directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly” and “In conclusion” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow because ideas are repeated or left incomplete. For example, the first body paragraph moves from earning money to studying abroad and then to a disadvantage for the writer’s country without explaining the links. The second paragraph repeats that people have different reasons but does not clearly develop them. Some references, including “this thing” and “these,” are unclear. To improve, give each paragraph one central point, explain it in a logical sequence, and use linking phrases only where they clarify the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on words such as “people,” “foreign country,” “study” and “work.” Some topic-related language is present, including “learning a foreign language” and “earn money,” so the general subject can be understood, but inaccurate word choice and spelling often make the message harder to read. Examples include “forign langguage,” “strugal,” “peopke” and “prefere.” Phrases such as “study with out country” and “went to abroad” are not natural ways to express studying or working overseas. Build a small set of accurate expressions for reasons to learn languages, and check spelling and collocations. More precise vocabulary would also help distinguish travel, employment, education and cultural motivations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
You attempt some longer sentences and use basic structures to introduce reasons, but grammatical control is inconsistent and the range remains limited. Errors in verb forms and sentence construction appear in phrases such as “many people learning language with earn money” and “some people went to learning a foreign language.” There are also problems with articles, prepositions and sentence boundaries, as in “work in a out country” and “foreign language. In my opinion.” These errors sometimes make the intended relationships between ideas unclear. Practise forming complete simple sentences first, then combine them with accurate clauses using “because,” “although” and “while.” Check subject–verb patterns, verb forms after “to,” and punctuation between sentences before submitting.
