Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people say that the main aim for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that this is not the main reason for learning a foreign language. The essay will demonstrate that the some people believe that the main purpose for learning a foreign language is to travel and work in other country. I agree that the people who travel a different country and explore the world. Firstly, learn their native language to understand the communication of native pupils and learn about their culture. Second, main reason is to work in a foreign country because in under developed country; the employment ratio is very low, and they cannot earn money to support their family, and house need, so the people decide to move in the developed countries where he can meet their household expense and they have better job opportunities.
However, these is not the main purpose for learning a foreign language because some students can lean a foreign language to continue his higher, bachelor and master level study in foreign language. For example, in Germany if a student want to study in a Ausbuilding program then firstly, they can lean a German native language "Deutsch" to enroll in the program course.
In conclusion, work and travel is not the main reason for learning a foreign language because; some student can learn to study in a foreign country, and some student can learn their own interest in other language.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You address both views by discussing travel and work, then giving study and personal interest as other reasons. Your own position is present, but it is not consistently clear: the opening says the essay will explain one view, while the conclusion says travel and work are not the main reasons. The ideas are relevant but mostly asserted rather than developed; for example, the point about employment abroad would benefit from a clearer explanation of why language learning is necessary, and the Germany example needs more detail. The response also contains 230 words, so it is 20 words below the required minimum; 20 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each view with a specific explanation or example and state your opinion consistently.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting travel and work, a paragraph presenting other reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Second,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, and the introduction repeats the task without establishing a clear line of argument. Some links are mechanical or unclear, such as “I agree that the people who travel a different country and explore the world,” which does not connect grammatically to the following points. The conclusion also introduces personal interest without developing it earlier. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the claim it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “foreign language,” “employment,” “job opportunities,” “culture,” and “higher… study.” This gives you enough basic language to communicate the main subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less clear. Examples include “native pupils” for people whose language is being learned, “house need” for household expenses, and “continue his higher… study.” There are also spelling or word-form errors such as “lean” and “Ausbuilding.” Aim to use more precise topic vocabulary and check unfamiliar terms before using them. For instance, “native speakers,” “living expenses,” and “pursue higher education” would express your ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a reason-and-result structure about moving abroad for work. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty; errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “the some people believe,” “these is not the main purpose,” and “if a student want,” which show problems with articles, agreement, and verb forms. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, as in the long sentence beginning “Second, main reason…” where several ideas are joined without clear control. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly linked supporting clause, then check agreement, articles, and punctuation.
