Student answer (Band 6.0)

In todays world, learning foreign language has become very important, people believe that learning a foreign language is only important when u want to travel ir work in a foreign country,

although, i agree with the latter, because it offers educational, cultural and personal benefits.

On the other hand, travelling and working abroad is one of the important reasons why people learn foreign languages, when one travels to another country, understanding their local language makes communication easier, and helps them ask for direction and interact with local residents, same applies to someone who travels to another country for work, the person will need to learn the language spijen there, for them to be able to work effectively, and interact with colleagues at work, for example a Nigerian who travelled to Germany for work will need to learn german language to be able to communicate effectively at work.

so learning foreign language creates employment opportunities and makes travelling enjoyable.

However, learning foreign language has many benefits apart from travelling and employment,

firstly, learning foreign languages hhelps to improve communication skills and by allowing an individual interact with people from different cultural background, secondly, it helps to provide educational access gir students to study books written in other languages and also for research purposes, thirdly, learning foreign language helps an individual understand different cultures and way of life, and also helps to build memory capacity.

In my opinion, learning foreign language should not be limited to employment and travelling abroad alone,

it has so many other importance and everyone can benefit from it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state your position clearly: the opening says you agree that language learning has benefits beyond travel and work, and the final paragraph reinforces this. The discussion of travel and employment is relevant, with practical examples such as asking for directions and communicating with colleagues; the Nigerian worker in Germany makes the point more concrete. You also identify educational, cultural and personal benefits. This meets the task well, but some ideas are listed rather than fully explained. For instance, the claims about research access and memory capacity would be stronger with a brief explanation or example. Developing these points more evenly would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph supporting travel and work, a paragraph presenting other benefits, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “On the other hand,” “However,” and “In my opinion” help signal the direction of the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and several ideas are joined in long sentences with commas, making their relationships less clear. The second body paragraph, for example, moves quickly from communication skills to education, culture and memory without developing links between them. Use clearer sentence boundaries and connect each supporting point to its explanation; this would make the progression smoother and reduce the list-like effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “employment opportunities,” “educational access,” “cultural background,” and “communicate effectively.” These expressions help convey the main ideas, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, including “spijen,” “hhelps,” and “gir,” as well as imprecise phrases such as “other importance” and “learn the language” where more specific wording would be natural. Some repetition of “foreign language” and “helps” also limits variety. Check spelling carefully and build a bank of accurate collocations, such as “learn a foreign language,” “access educational resources,” and “broaden cultural understanding.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “when,” “although,” and “because.” This allows you to express reasons and examples, but control is uneven: some sentences are run together, and errors in articles, agreement and sentence construction recur. For example, “learning foreign language has become very important” needs an article, while “helps an individual interact” requires a clearer grammatical pattern, such as “helps an individual to interact.” The opening also joins separate ideas with commas rather than using full stops or appropriate conjunctions. Practise accurate sentence boundaries and check articles, plural forms and verb patterns; these changes would make your argument easier to follow.
