Student answer (Band 6.0)
People these days are really keen in learning multiple languages that not only help them to travell around the world without getting worried about communicating with the natives but also prove to be handy in making money while they travel and enjoy. Some people belive that they learn a foreign language for travelling and work, whereas other recan there might be more to it. In my prespective people definitely benefits from learning foreign language for work.
To begin with, people do learn a foriegn language to work and travel in different countries for a better living and to gain an increadible experience of seeing the imense beauty of the world. For instance, my cousin learned german so she can study in germany and now she is so fluent that even natives get surprised. In addition she secured a really good job opportunity for heself.
On the other hand, there are several people, who find langugaes interesting and just want be linguist or learn a foreign language out of their passion without having a motive in their mind. For example, a colleuge of mine can speak five different languages because its her passion and she is also keen in history and translation of different books in multiple languages.
In conclusion, people do leran a foreign language for travel and work but there are other reasons like following their passion to be a liguist or study history etcectra. In my opinion majority of people learn a new language with the main purpose of travel and work in their mind because I, myself learn english so I can come to new zealand and have a wonderful life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You discuss both views: the first body paragraph explains language learning for travel and work, while the second introduces personal interest, linguistics, history and translation. Your examples about your cousin and colleague make the ideas relevant, and your conclusion gives a clear preference for practical reasons. However, the discussion is uneven: the reasons for travel and work are developed more fully, while the alternative view is mainly described through one colleague’s example. Your opening also says people learn languages to make money while travelling, but this point is not explored. To strengthen the response, explain more clearly why non-travel motives matter and develop your own position consistently, including how your personal example supports it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. The examples are placed in relevant paragraphs, so the main progression is easy to understand. However, some linking is mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always precise. For example, “In addition” introduces the job opportunity, but the connection between language ability and securing that job could be explained. The introduction also shifts quickly from general benefits to the two positions. Use more varied, precise links and make each paragraph’s central point explicit before adding its example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “communicating with the natives,” “job opportunity,” “passion,” and “translation.” These choices allow you to discuss both practical and personal motivations. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, including “travell,” “belive,” “imense,” “langugaes,” and “liguist.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “keen in learning,” “recan there might be more to it,” and “a better living.” These slips do not prevent the reader from understanding your main ideas, but they reduce precision and control. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases, rather than translating them word by word.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast between the two views and clauses explaining purpose, as in “so she can study in Germany.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include “people definitely benefits,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “just want be linguist,” which needs an infinitive marker and an article. In the final sentence, “I, myself learn English” has an incorrect verb form for a past or continuing personal experience. Articles and sentence punctuation also need more consistent control. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and articles, then proofread each sentence while preserving your attempts at complex structures.
