Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the main trends. You successfully identified the key changes, such as the increase in students speaking no second language and the decline in Spanish and French speakers. However, there is a significant factual error in your analysis: you stated that 30% of students spoke no second language in 2000, whereas the chart shows 30% for 'no second language' in 2010 and 20% in 2000. This misinterpretation of the data affects the accuracy of your summary. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference the data labels with the corresponding years before writing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'conversely', 'whereas', and 'in the following decade' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by minor mechanical errors, such as the typo 'SimiliraWhereas' at the end of the text. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed data analysis. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring that transitions between sentences are smoother and that punctuation around cohesive devices is consistently accurate.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportions', 'shrunk', 'constant', and 'recorded years'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'leaving to hit 10%', which is not a standard collocation. You also have a few spelling errors, such as 'french' (should be capitalized) and 'SimiliraWhereas'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Incorporating more sophisticated reporting verbs and varied ways to describe statistical changes would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'most student' (should be plural 'students'), 'Spanish was the language the highest percentage' (missing a preposition like 'with'), and 'percentage on students' (should be 'of'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. Your control of tense is generally good, though the subject-verb agreement and preposition usage need more attention. To improve, proofread specifically for pluralization and common prepositional phrases used in data reporting.
