The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The pie charts compares the data of british students at one university in England who where able to speak other languages othe rthan English in 2000 and 2010. The scale is in percentages.

Overall, it is evident that majority of the students were not able to speak any other languages in both the years. The proportion of german speaking students were similar in 2000 and 2010.

To commence with, in 2000, students speaking Spanish language along with English accounted for 20%, whereas it was decreased to 10% in 2010. This trend was followed by French language. In 2000, proportion of French speaking students was about 15%, later in the year 2010 it declined by 5% to record a figure of 10%.

To add further, in 2000, students speaking only english language with no other language recorded a figure of 30%, while it increased by 5% in the upcoming year. Students speaking another language and two other languages along with english in the year 2000 accounted for 15% and 10% respectively. Whereas it surged by 5% in the year 2010. Finally, students speaking only german language other than english remained identical in the both consecutive years.
