Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the charts and makes relevant comparisons. You successfully identified the largest and smallest categories in both years and noted the trends. However, the report is slightly hampered by some inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you mention 'Spanish and French represented the minority at 10 and 5 percentages points both, at 10% each others in 2010', which is confusing and contradictory. To improve, ensure that your data points are clearly linked to the correct categories and years. The overview is present but could be more clearly articulated to highlight the most significant shifts, such as the overall increase in students speaking no other language.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'Looking at the first pie chart' and 'Turning to the second chart' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'they were could to tell other languages', which makes the progression of ideas feel mechanical. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when discussing the categories in the second paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the charts effectively. You use terms like 'proportion', 'segment', and 'minority' appropriately. However, there are several instances of unnatural word choice and phrasing, such as 'they were could to tell other languages' and 'at 10% each others'. These errors occasionally cause the reader to pause. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive structures. Expanding your range of reporting verbs and comparative phrases will also enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Examples include 'they were could to tell' (incorrect verb form), 'German remain unchanged' (subject-verb agreement), and 'Two other languages a slight rose' (missing verb). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to basic sentence construction, verb tenses, and subject-verb agreement. Practicing the use of complex sentences with accurate punctuation will also help you demonstrate better control over your grammar.
