Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response attempts to address the task by describing the charts, but the information provided is often inaccurate or confusing. For instance, you state that English was 30% in 2000, whereas the chart shows it at 30% in 2000 and 35% in 2010. Furthermore, the description of the other languages is difficult to follow and does not accurately reflect the data presented in the charts. While you have identified the main features, the lack of precision in reporting the data points and the confusion between the years and percentages significantly hinder the clarity of the report. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference your text with the visual data to ensure accuracy.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inappropriate, such as 'At the fleeting glance' and 'moving ahead', which do not effectively guide the reader through the data. The sentences often lack clear connections, making the overall flow disjointed. Referencing is also problematic; for example, it is unclear which language you are referring to when you mention 'two other language' or 'the decade'. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence clearly relates to the previous one will help improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'speak', 'language', and 'percentage'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'calibrated into percentage' and 'scholars of universities'. Some terms are used incorrectly, which occasionally causes confusion for the reader. To achieve a higher band score, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'. Focusing on precise terminology will help you convey information more effectively and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'circular chart represents', 'German remain same'), missing articles, and incorrect tense usage (e.g., 'in 200 year'). Sentence structures are often simple or fragmented, and punctuation is inconsistent. While some complex structures are attempted, they are frequently faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and pluralisation. Consistent practice with sentence structure will help you produce more accurate and readable text.
