Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by summarizing the provided charts. You successfully identify the main trends, such as the increase in English speakers and the decline in Spanish speakers. However, the report contains some inaccuracies in data interpretation; for instance, you mention 'no other language has been seen higher in initially year' which is confusing, and the description of the 'remaining data' in the final paragraph is unclear and mathematically inconsistent with the provided charts. To improve, ensure that your data reporting is precise and that you clearly distinguish between the categories. While you cover the main features, the lack of clarity in data presentation prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'overall', 'at the fleeting glance', and 'moving further' to transition between ideas. However, some of these transitions are used awkwardly or incorrectly, such as 'at the fleeting glance', which is not standard academic English. Additionally, the progression of ideas within the paragraphs is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph where the explanation of the 'remaining data' becomes difficult to follow. Improving the logical flow between sentences and using more natural linking phrases would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe trends like 'decline', 'rise', and 'constant ratio'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and spelling errors, such as 'caliberated', 'cyrstal', and 'inclined in ratio'. The phrase 'depicts about the information' is also redundant. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling. You have a sufficient range to communicate the main points, but the frequent minor errors and non-standard collocations limit the effectiveness of your expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('first Spanish had spoken by 20%'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('in the both year'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper capitalization or ending punctuation. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and article usage.
