Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the trends for the different language categories. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For example, you state that the majority for 'no other language' was 30% in 2000, but the chart shows 30% for 'no other language' and 30% for 'another language'. Furthermore, the description of the decline in languages like Spanish and French is confusingly phrased, and the summary of the data in the final paragraph contradicts some of the earlier figures provided. To improve, ensure that you carefully cross-reference your written data with the visual information to avoid factual errors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally confusing. For instance, the phrase 'later these languages had been declined' is awkward and does not effectively link the ideas. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. While there is a logical progression from the overview to specific details, the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the flow feel somewhat disjointed. Improving the variety of cohesive devices would help the ideas connect more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and lacks precision. You rely on basic verbs like 'speak', 'constitute', and 'declined'. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'no ther language' (spelling) and 'the cohort for the section of no ther language almost the same'. The use of 'constitued for' is also grammatically incorrect in this context. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant decrease'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the majority speak no other language constitued for 30%' and 'the proportion of another language and two other languages have been rose'. These errors involve subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and incorrect passive voice construction. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring correct verb tenses would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
