Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, such as the trends for Spanish and 'no other languages'. However, the reporting is somewhat inaccurate; for instance, you state that 'no other languages' portrays an opposite trend to Spanish, but the data shows it increasing while Spanish decreases. Additionally, the description of the data is occasionally vague, such as 'two other language remains almost same', which lacks precision. To improve, ensure you accurately extract the specific figures from the charts and provide a clearer overview that synthesizes the information rather than just listing data points. The summary of the main trends could be more analytical to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'the percentage of'. Transitions like 'Furthermore' and 'Meanwhile' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed. For example, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, connecting ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple sentence-by-sentence reporting.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'percentage', 'number', and 'high'. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'the unit of description is percentage' and 'total six languages were spoke', which are not natural in an academic context. To improve, incorporate more varied reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'proportion', 'figure', 'declined', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise descriptors for trends will significantly enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally hinder clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('two other language remains', 'six languages were spoke') and article usage errors ('the percentage of Spanish language'). While you attempt some complex structures, they are often marred by these inaccuracies. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and pluralization will help you produce more error-free sentences, which is essential for moving into the higher band categories.
