Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts and made relevant comparisons between the two years. You covered all categories (English only, two other languages, etc.) and provided data to support your claims. However, the response lacks a clear overview that synthesizes the trends effectively; the current overview is a bit fragmented. To reach a higher band, ensure that the 'main features' are highlighted more distinctly in the introduction or a dedicated overview paragraph, rather than just listing data points. The comparison between 2000 and 2010 is clear, but ensure that all data points are accurate, as there were some minor inconsistencies in the reporting of percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of information. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition', 'On the other hand', and 'To sum up' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. For instance, starting multiple sentences with 'The percentage of...' makes the flow feel slightly monotonous. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and using more sophisticated referencing (e.g., 'this figure', 'the former', 'the latter') would enhance the overall flow and cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the charts, using terms like 'proportions', 'increased', 'decreased', and 'substantially'. However, there are some spelling errors ('Germen', 'tow') and word choice issues ('more percentage' should be 'a higher percentage'). You rely on a somewhat limited set of verbs to describe trends. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' (e.g., 'rose', 'declined', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable') and ensure precise usage of nouns and adjectives to describe the data more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('The pie charts illustrates') and incorrect phrasing ('each one were 15%'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that hinder the sophistication of the writing. To move up, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining your use of articles and prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or participial phrases, would also help demonstrate better control over grammar.
