Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the charts and makes relevant comparisons between the two years. However, the data reporting is occasionally inaccurate. For instance, you state that in 2010, 20% was recorded for students who spoke 'another language', but the chart shows 20% for 'two languages'. Additionally, the summary of the 2010 data for Spanish, German, and French is slightly confusing as the chart shows these as separate categories, not an identical share of 10% for all three. To improve, ensure you carefully distinguish between individual categories and accurately transcribe the percentages provided in the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief overview. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the data by year. Cohesive devices such as 'In 2000', 'Furthermore', and 'In 2010' help guide the reader through the information. However, the transition in the final paragraph is slightly abrupt, and some referencing is a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the progression of ideas flows more naturally between sentences, particularly when comparing the two years.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'illustrate', and 'accounted for'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the trend was changed' (should be 'the trend changed') and 'least were speak' (should be 'the fewest spoke'). Some phrasing is also repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'in addition to English'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise descriptors for trends and data points would enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the figure was same who were able to speak german' and 'the maximum proportion of the students were able to speak no other language'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'the category of speak') need attention. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will be beneficial.
