The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The provided pie charts compare the proportion of students who were capable to speak other languages rather than English in the UK in 2000 and 2010.

Overall, it is clear that there were six different categories of students ranging from Spanish to no other language. No other language category accounted for the highest figure among both year. However, students who were able to speaks German remained constant.

Looking at the pie charts in more detail, no other language group made up 30%, making the most significant proportion in 2000. The percentage rose by 5% to reach 35% by 2010. Spanish only experienced a decline from 20% in 2000 to 10% in 2010. French and another language both groups stood at 15% in 2000. By 2010, France only and another language categories amounted to 10% and 20% respectively.

Two other languages group constituted 10% in 2000, which faced an increase to 15% by 2010. In contrast, German only category remained constant at 10% in both years.
