Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the trends for the different language categories. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, cohesive overview of the most significant changes. While you have selected key data points, the comparison between the two years could be more analytical. For instance, you mention the figures for 2010 but do not fully contrast them with the 2000 data in a way that highlights the overall shift in language proficiency. To improve, ensure that your overview synthesizes the data rather than just listing percentages, and double-check the accuracy of your data reporting, as some descriptions of the trends are slightly imprecise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast' and 'whereas', which are effective. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data analysis.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the basic information. You use some relevant terms like 'proportions', 'percentages', and 'recorded'. However, there is a lack of variety, and some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'noted for 15%' or 'experienced same figure'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'capable to communicate' instead of 'capable of communicating'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'witnessed a marginal increase'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie charts illustrates', 'people... has the highest proportion') and article usage ('In first year', 'the German language'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensure that articles are used correctly with nouns. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also help raise your score.
