Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the data. You have successfully identified the main features and made relevant comparisons between the two years. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting. For example, you state that students who spoke no other languages increased from 30% to 35%, but the chart shows 30% in 2000 and 35% in 2010, which is correct; however, your description of the French and Spanish figures contains inconsistencies. Ensure that your data extraction is precise to reach higher bands. The overall summary is clear, but the analysis could be more concise to avoid repetitive phrasing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for each year, and a comparison section. The progression of ideas is generally clear. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In the year 2000' and 'In comparison', which help the flow. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the use of 'And in the last' is unnatural. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more fluid rather than relying on simple chronological markers.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey the information, such as 'proportions', 'increment', and 'decrement'. However, there is some misuse of vocabulary. The word 'colossal' is inappropriate for describing statistical data in an academic context, as it is too emotive. Additionally, there are some awkward collocations, such as 'speak to other language' instead of 'speak another language'. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and avoid over-dramatizing the data with adjectives like 'colossal'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'who who spoke' (repetition), 'speak to other language' (article/preposition error), and 'Till the year 2010' (incorrect preposition usage). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the clarity of your writing. You should work on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles (e.g., 'the French language' is often unnecessary). Focusing on proofreading for these minor slips will help improve your accuracy.
