Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is significantly hampered by inaccurate data reporting. For example, you state that English-only speakers were 'about 30%' in 2000, whereas the chart shows 30% for English only, but your subsequent descriptions of the other categories are confusing and mathematically inconsistent. The comparison between 2000 and 2010 is attempted, but the lack of precision in interpreting the percentages makes the summary unreliable. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe the data points from the visual and avoid vague phrasing like 'lies under same proportion' when describing specific figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. Phrases like 'At the end' and 'In contrast' are used, but the internal flow of sentences is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'second majority was of another language they got increased by 5%'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which data point is being compared to which. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will help the progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'majorities', 'increased', and 'stood at'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'got inclination' and 'students who were able to speak lies under same proportion'. These errors occasionally make the meaning unclear. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary for describing trends, such as 'accounted for', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal rise', and ensure that your terminology for data reporting is accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'English speakers students rose', 'the two categories were of French and another languages', and 'students who were able to speak German as well as two other languages stood at least proportion 10%'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents a higher score.
