Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, including the decline in French and Spanish speakers and the increase in other categories. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the summary of the data is repetitive, and the conclusion merely restates information already provided without synthesizing the trends effectively. While the key features are identified, the comparison between categories could be more analytical. The response meets the minimum length requirement, but to achieve a higher band, you should focus on grouping data more logically and providing a more insightful overview of the trends rather than just listing percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'In conclusion' is used to introduce a point that is essentially a repetition of the body paragraph rather than a summary of the main trends. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'The proportion of other two language', which lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, distinct purpose would significantly improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. You rely on basic verbs like 'compare', 'change', and 'grow'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'addtion', 'spekaer', and 'perent', which distract the reader. To improve, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuate', 'remain stable', or 'a marginal increase'. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' will help you avoid repetitive phrasing and demonstrate a better command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempts at complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'The charts compares' and 'The number of the Spanish and French speakers have declined'. There are also issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'The number of student who can not speak other language'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and proofreading for minor slips would be beneficial.
