Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features, but it contains significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. For example, you state that 'No other language' climbed to 35% in 2010, whereas the chart indicates a different figure. Furthermore, the description of 'Two other languages' is confusing, and the final sentence is incomplete, leaving the summary unfinished. While you identify some trends, the failure to complete the report and the misreading of the data prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you carefully verify the data points against the charts and provide a complete, coherent summary that covers all categories presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of information is hindered by logical gaps and mechanical transitions. Phrases like 'Initially' and 'On the other hand' are used, but they do not always connect the ideas effectively. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when discussing the categories. The most significant issue is the lack of a concluding sentence or a fully developed final paragraph, as the text ends abruptly. To improve, focus on using cohesive devices that link sentences more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, completed point before moving to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportions', 'upward trend', and 'remained constant'. However, there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'exceptional University' (likely meant 'a specific university') and 'tallied separately'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the lack of precision in describing the data categories limits your score. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your word choices accurately reflect the data being described without ambiguity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement issues are common, such as 'The two charts gives' and 'Two other languages was'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, proofread your work specifically for subject-verb agreement and ensure that your punctuation follows standard conventions, particularly regarding spacing and sentence boundaries.
