Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the charts and provided a clear overview. You included relevant data points to support your descriptions, such as the percentages for English-only speakers and the changes in other language categories. However, there are some inaccuracies in your data reporting. For instance, you stated that the proportion of students who spoke 'another language' and 'two other languages' rose to 15% and 20% by 2010, but the charts show these figures were already at those levels in 2000. Additionally, your claim that Spanish and French decreased to 10% is accurate, but the overall analysis could be more precise in comparing the shifts between the two years.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Similarly', and 'However' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the years. To improve, ensure that the transition between sentences flows more naturally and that referencing (e.g., 'which was the highest than other') is grammatically sound to avoid confusion for the reader.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'ratio', and 'remained unchanged'. However, there are some word choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'highest than other' instead of 'highest of all' and 'the students spoke another language' instead of 'the proportion of students who spoke another language'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. Focusing on more sophisticated collocations related to data description would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include missing relative pronouns (e.g., 'the students spoke' instead of 'the students who spoke') and incorrect comparative structures (e.g., 'highest than other'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and affect the overall fluency of the writing. To reach a higher band, you should work on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative clauses to connect ideas more accurately.
