Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to accurately interpret the data. The description of the charts is confusing and contains factual inaccuracies, such as claiming Spanish and French decreased in 2010, which contradicts the visual data. The summary lacks a clear overview of the main trends, and the information provided is often disjointed or unclear. The response does not effectively select and report the main features, making it difficult for the reader to understand the actual proportions shown in the charts. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant changes and stating them clearly without misinterpreting the labels or percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the misuse of 'Eventually' and 'Although' at the start of sentences. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the two years. The flow of information is hampered by the lack of clear transitions between the data points. To improve, use linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping data by category or year to create a more logical structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'high volume of first image' and 'German language was remain same', which impede clarity. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or comparisons accurately. To reach a higher band, you should learn specific collocations for describing charts, such as 'a significant increase', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'. Expanding your range of descriptive language will help you convey the data more precisely and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often affect the clarity of the message. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie chart show', 'students was able'), incorrect verb tenses, and awkward sentence structures ('as compere to previous one'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used are often error-prone. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Proofreading for these fundamental errors will significantly improve the readability of your writing.
