Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to summarise the data but fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. While some figures are mentioned, the reporting is often confusing and inaccurate. For example, the student refers to 'diversified ages' when the data relates to languages, and the description of the trends is disjointed. The main features are not clearly highlighted, and the comparison between 2000 and 2010 is difficult to follow due to poor data interpretation. The response lacks a clear summary of the overall trends, which is essential for Task 1.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks logical progression. Paragraphs are poorly structured, and the sentences within them do not flow logically. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often incorrect, such as the misuse of 'moreover' and 'secondly' to introduce data points that do not follow a logical sequence. Referencing is unclear, and the lack of proper transition between ideas makes the text difficult to follow. The overall arrangement of information is fragmented, hindering the reader's ability to understand the comparison being made.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as using 'diversified ages' instead of 'languages' and 'cent' instead of 'percent'. The student struggles to use appropriate terminology for describing data (e.g., 'the is went to decreased'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information precisely, and the repetition of basic terms limits the quality of the response. Communication is frequently impeded by these lexical inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often distort the meaning. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The charts illustrates'), sentence structure, and article usage. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to confusion. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the lack of control over basic grammar makes the text difficult to read. The majority of sentences contain errors, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
