Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the development of the response. While you have identified some key features, such as the increase in students speaking no other language and the trends for Spanish and French, the analysis is incomplete. The report ends abruptly, failing to cover all data points or provide a comprehensive summary. To improve, ensure you provide a full overview of all categories and reach the required length by expanding on the comparisons between the two years.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the flow is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'overall', 'In 2000', and 'on the other hand', but these are sometimes applied mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the abrupt ending disrupts the logical progression of the report. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, completed focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts your ability to describe the data with precision. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'ration' instead of 'proportion', 'papuler' instead of 'popular', and 'speek' instead of 'speak'. You rely on basic descriptors like 'increased' and 'fell'. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a broader range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a decline', and pay closer attention to accurate spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'This two pie chart compare' (subject-verb agreement), 'whose are able' (incorrect relative pronoun), and 'is decrease significantly' (incorrect verb tense). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage. Proofreading for common errors like 'the 30% of student' (should be '30% of students') will also help improve your accuracy.
