Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response identifies the main features of the charts, such as the proportions of students speaking various languages. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. For example, you state that the 'no other language' category was 30% in 2000 and increased by 5% in the 'next year', but the data covers 2000 and 2010, not consecutive years. Furthermore, the description of the data is sometimes confusing, such as stating 'the highest ratio was by no other language', which is imprecise. While you attempt to make comparisons, the lack of clarity regarding the time frame and the misinterpretation of the data points prevent a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. Phrases like 'in the next year' are used repeatedly to refer to 2010, which is factually incorrect and creates confusion. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence '15% of British students who spoke another language as in the next year it was increased about 5%'. This makes the flow of information feel disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'ratio', 'value', and 'increased'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation; for instance, 'percentile of British scholars' is not the correct term for the data presented (percentages). Phrases such as 'highest ratio was by no other language' are awkward and lack the precision required for academic writing. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the frequent misuse of terminology limit the effectiveness of your communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement is often incorrect, such as 'the provided graph represent' and 'British students who spoke no other language was'. There are also issues with prepositions and tense usage, such as 'it as decreased' and 'it was inclined 5%'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally cause the reader to pause, though they do not completely impede communication. A greater focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading is necessary.
