Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. Because the essay is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence, the main features are not fully reported, and the comparison of data is underdeveloped. While there is an attempt to identify an overall trend, the lack of sufficient detail and the failure to complete the analysis prevent the response from addressing all parts of the task effectively. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full summary of the data and complete your sentences to allow for a thorough analysis of the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. While there is an attempt at an introduction and an overview, the body paragraphs are not properly developed or separated. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and sometimes mechanical way, such as 'thus' and 'but'. The abrupt ending of the text further disrupts the flow and coherence of the response. To improve, focus on organizing your report into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and specific details grouped logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to convey information precisely. There are several spelling errors, such as 'spenish' for 'Spanish', 'inable' for 'unable', and 'althought' for 'although'. Additionally, the phrasing 'the number of students who speak French and other languages is increased' is awkward and lacks the precision required for a data report. To improve, focus on learning accurate spelling and using more varied vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant rise'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the number of students... is increased', and incorrect word forms like 'inable'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and periods, and run-on sentences. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses when describing past data, and proofreading for punctuation and spelling errors.
