Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to accurately report the main features. The interpretation of the charts is flawed; for instance, the student claims English increased by 5% in 2010, whereas the data shows a decrease from 30% to 20%. Furthermore, the description of the categories is confusing, and the overview is poorly constructed, failing to highlight the most significant trends. The response lacks a clear, accurate summary of the comparative data, which is essential for Task 1. The information provided is often contradictory to the visual evidence, which significantly impacts the clarity and accuracy of the report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often illogical. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes incorrect, such as the phrase 'given time of spam' (likely a misuse of 'span'). Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between 2000 and 2010. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'Moreover' and 'In 2000', the lack of logical flow between sentences and the confusion regarding the data points hinder the overall coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'narrating the ratio' instead of 'illustrating the proportions' and 'time of spam' instead of 'time span'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe statistical trends, relying on vague descriptions like 'no ups and downs' or 'slows down'. To improve, the student needs to focus on using academic collocations and more precise verbs to describe data changes, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a decline'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('mostly student speak'), tense usage ('could spoke'), and sentence structure. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with errors in basic syntax. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and there are errors in word order. The student needs to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and improving the accuracy of simple and compound sentences before attempting more complex structures.
