Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task by describing the charts, but it fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The data interpretation is inconsistent and often confusing, such as the claim that 'the level was not so hight' in 2010 when comparing Spanish and French figures. The response lacks a clear summary of trends, and the information provided is often inaccurate or difficult to follow. It does not effectively compare the two years, which is a key requirement of the prompt. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant changes and grouping data logically rather than listing individual figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay is poorly organized, with limited use of cohesive devices. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the logical progression of ideas is weak. The transition between sentences is often abrupt or confusing, such as the use of 'so' and 'then' to connect unrelated points. Referencing is unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between 2000 and 2010. The lack of effective linking words and the repetitive structure of sentences hinder the overall flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'student', 'speak', and 'language'. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'hight' for 'high', 'toung' for 'tongue', and 'spoked' for 'speak'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe data, such as 'level up' or 'known idea'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information clearly, and the errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the data presented.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that significantly affect readability. There is a lack of control over basic sentence structures, with many run-on sentences and missing articles. Verb tense usage is inconsistent, particularly when switching between the past and present. Examples include 'British student at one university' (missing plural/article), '35 five student speak' (incorrect number/verb agreement), and 'many students have known idea' (incorrect phrasing). Complex structures are largely absent, and the frequent errors in punctuation and grammar make the text difficult to process.
