The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Two pie charts illustrate the percentage of British university students in English who were proficient in additional language other than English in 2000 and 2010.

Overall, it is evident that the percentage of no other language recorded the highest figure in both years, while German only and two other languages experienced the lowest figure in 2000, and French, German and Spanish only showed the least proportion in 2010.

In 2000, the proportion of no other language had the largest share at 30%, compared with 20% in Spanish only. French and Another language had reportedly similar share at 15%. Two Other Languages and German only accounted for the smallest proportion both with 10%.

In terms of 2010, the percentage of No Other Language had increased from 30% in 2000 to 35% in 2010, this was followed by Another Language at 20%. The third highest position was Two Other Languages with 15%. Spanish, French and German Only accounted for 10%, 10% and 10, respectively.
