Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The charts given illustrate a number of British students capable of speaking additional languages, along with English in 2000 and 2010 at a University.
In 2000, twenty percent of the students could speak Spanish only, while 15% were fluent in French in addition to another language not specified in the chart. Apart from this, 10% of the pupils had mastered German language and two other languages. Remaining 30% had no knowledge of a language apart from English.
In 2010, there was a dip in the ratio of students speaking Spanish and French from 20 and 15% to 10% in both languages. However proportion of German speaking individuals remained static as in 2000. Moreover there had also been a decline of students speaking two other unspecified languages in 2010 as compared to students in 2000. Concomitantly the number of students who knew another language in 2000 rose by 5% in 2010. Rest of the students who had no knowledge of any other language apart from English were more in proportion in 2010 than in 2000.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends and making comparisons between 2000 and 2010. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of the 'two other languages' category is vague, and the statement that the proportion of German speakers remained 'static' is accurate, but the overall summary lacks a clear, cohesive overview of the most significant changes. While all categories are mentioned, the interpretation of the data is occasionally confusing, particularly when describing the 'no other language' group. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are reported with greater precision and that the overview clearly highlights the most striking shifts in the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction and two body paragraphs focusing on the two years provided. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In 2000', 'In 2010', 'Apart from this', and 'Moreover'. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'as in 2000' which could be more smoothly integrated. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the internal structure of the second paragraph could be improved to better link the comparisons between the two years. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the information is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'concomitantly', 'proportion', and 'fluent'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'a number of British students' is slightly imprecise when referring to percentages, and 'mastered German language' is better phrased as 'mastered German'. The phrase 'dip in the ratio' is a good attempt, but the overall range is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for data trends and ensuring collocations are natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'a number of British students capable of speaking' (which should be 'the proportion of students') and 'Remaining 30% had no knowledge' (missing an article). Punctuation is generally functional, though there is a missing space after the period in 'languages.However'. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring consistent control over articles and prepositions would enhance the accuracy of the writing.
