The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The pie charts illustrate the percentage of British students who can efficiently communicate in other languages, such as French, German, Spanish, another language, two other languages and no other language in addition to English in the years 2000 and 2010, respectively.
Overall, majority of the students could not communicate in any other language in the given years, whereas the least proportion of students were able to communicate in two other languagers and in German only in the former year and in the latter year, the minority of students could speak only French, German or Spanish.
Turning to details, in 2000, almost 30% of the British students could not speak any other language, which comprises of the majority, whereas the students who could communicate well in German only and two other languages, were in minority, comprising of 10% students, respectively. 15% of students could speak French only and another language each. The proportion of students who can speak Spanish only were 20%.
Furthermore, majority of the students could speak no other language in 2010 is 5% higher than the previous data. 10% of the students could communicate effectively in Spanish, French and German only, respectively. 15% and 20% of the students could effectively speak two other languages and another language.
