Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main features of the two pie charts illustrating language abilities in 2000 and 2010. However, there are significant issues with data interpretation and expression. For instance, the student states that 'french was also increased their percentage upto 15%', when French actually decreased from 15% in 2000 to 10% in 2010. Furthermore, the overview is somewhat confused, referring to 'no other languages' as spoken languages. While some main features are identified, such as the proportions for those speaking no other language and the changes in 'another language', the inaccuracies in reporting data and the lack of a clear, cohesive overview keep this performance at a Band 5.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for 2000 and 2010. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor referencing and mechanical or inaccurate cohesive devices. Phrases like 'On the hand' (instead of 'On the other hand') and 'Firstly' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is weak. The overview lacks clarity and fails to summarize the broader trends effectively. Paragraphing is attempted, but overall cohesion is faulty, corresponding to a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The lexical range is quite limited and repetitive, with numerous spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include 'ilustrates', 'propostions', 'british', 'universty', 'camparsion', and 'percenatge'. The vocabulary used is basic and barely adequate to describe the charts. Furthermore, collocation and phrasing errors, such as referring to 'no other languages' as a spoken language rather than a lack of language skills, impede the clarity of the response. This performance aligns with a Band 4.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The student uses a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent grammatical errors. Complex structures are either absent or faulty, as seen in 'french was also increased their percentage upto 15%' and 'spanish and french were not really spoken... and their percenatge remain same upto 10% as well as german was 10'. Punctuation and capitalization are poorly controlled throughout the text (e.g., lowercase letters at the start of sentences like 'Firstly, In 2000...'). Errors are frequent and cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting Band 4.0.
