Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task by describing the charts showing languages spoken by British students in 2000 and 2010. However, the information is presented in a very limited and tangential way. The student struggles to accurately report the data, confusing percentages and categories, such as stating that '20 Percent of student are spoken Spanish Language it means 20 Percent of Students are spoken English and Spanish Language Both'. Important key features and comparisons are poorly selected, and key data points from the visual information are misread or misconstrued. The overview is absent, and the overall treatment of the task remains minimal, fitting the lower band descriptor for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently. While the student attempts to separate the two charts into different paragraphs, the internal structure of these paragraphs lacks logical progression and clarity. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and occasionally inaccurate, such as 'In other side' and 'In the other Chart'. The referencing between ideas is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information. Paragraphing is attempted, but the overall organization falls short of clear logical progression, reflecting the characteristics of this band level.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and often inaccurate. The student relies heavily on simple words and phrases, repeating terms like 'percent of student', 'spoke', and 'language' throughout the text. There are notable word form and word choice errors, such as 'studnets', 'are spoken', and 'not mention', which stem from lexical and structural confusion. While the language used is sufficient to convey a very basic gist of what the charts represent, the frequent errors and restricted range mean that the vocabulary remains limited and occasionally strains the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying almost exclusively on simple or heavily flawed sentence patterns. Grammatical errors are frequent and pervasive throughout the text, including severe issues with verb forms and tenses (e.g., 'its showing', 'are spoken', 'students those have only spoke'), missing articles, and incorrect prepositions. These persistent errors frequently distort meaning and make the sentences difficult to parse. Complex sentence forms are either absent or attempted with such heavy error that they fail to demonstrate control over grammar.
