Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the charts’ subject and mention several relevant categories, including “No other language,” Spanish, French and German. However, the report does not accurately summarise the main changes across both years. It gives figures mainly for 2000, then says “From, 2000 and 2010” as though the values were unchanged; in fact, no other language rose from 30% to 35%, Spanish fell from 20% to 10%, and another language and two other languages increased. The overview is also unclear and includes the unsupported claim that Spanish was “very popular” compared with the other categories. To make the response more complete, give a clear overview of the key shifts and compare the figures for both years accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has an opening, an attempted overview and a body paragraph, so there is some basic organisation. However, ideas are not arranged in a clear progression: the overview is difficult to interpret, and the body moves between categories without consistently comparing 2000 with 2010. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore,” “By contrast,” and “Lastly” are used, but they do not always show a clear relationship between the information. The final sentence repeats the general introduction rather than providing a useful concluding comparison. Organise the report into a concise overview followed by grouped comparisons, and use linking words only where they accurately signal contrast or addition.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “proportions,” “accounted,” “recorded,” and “different types of languages.” However, the range is basic and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, which makes parts of the report hard to understand. For example, “different types of languages use” and “has mostly speak in university” do not express the intended meaning naturally, while “the Spanish was very popular” is an imprecise description of a chart proportion. Use standard chart language and accurate collocations, such as “accounted for,” “the proportion of students,” and “increased/decreased.” This would make the comparisons clearer and reduce reliance on repeated references to “languages” and “university.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to form longer sentences using connectors, but grammatical control is inconsistent and errors frequently make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “in this the university in England had,” “the No other language has mostly speak,” and “the Two other languages were used 10%.” Tense and verb forms are also confused in “the Spanish is accounted for 20% spoken,” and the sentence beginning “From, 2000 and 2010” is not grammatically complete. Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention too, as “institution.Overall” runs two sentences together. Practise clear simple comparison structures first—for example, “Spanish fell from 20% in 2000 to 10% in 2010”—then add more varied sentence forms.
