Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the chart’s topic and include several correct 2000 figures, such as 30% for students speaking no other language, 20% for Spanish, and 10% for German and two other languages. However, the response only partially reports the comparison across both years. It does not accurately give the 2010 figures, and the claim that French, German, Spanish, two other languages and another language all decreased is incorrect: “another language” rose from 15% to 20%, and “two other languages” rose from 10% to 15%. The statement that Spanish and no other language increased is also inaccurate, since Spanish fell to 10%. Focus the overview on the main rises and falls, then support it with accurate figures for both years.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, overview, detail paragraph and conclusion, so the reader can see an attempt to organise the report. However, the information does not progress clearly: the detail paragraph gives mostly starting values, then introduces an unclear reference to 2007, while the conclusion repeats those same 2000 figures rather than summarising the comparison. Linking phrases such as “Broadely speaking” and “in specific term” signal sections, but connections between ideas are often inaccurate or repetitive. Organise the body by comparing the categories that rose with those that fell, and use the conclusion only for the overall pattern rather than repeating the opening data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt some task-related vocabulary, including “upward trajectory,” “ratio,” “evolved chronologically” and “most striking pattern.” This shows an effort to describe trends, but the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to follow. For example, “emission” does not fit the chart, “headed in the reverse direction” is unclear, and “converinging near the same lavel” does not describe the figures accurately. Spelling errors such as “illustratares,” “Broadely” and “lanuages” also reduce clarity. Use precise chart language such as “proportion,” “increased,” “declined” and “remained unchanged,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt longer sentences and clauses, for example, “Broadely speaking, no other language followed a distinct upward trajectory where as…” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries frequently make the report hard to read. Examples include “the no other language is 30%,” “french and another language is 15%,” and “no other language were increases.” Tense and comparison forms are also unclear in “commenced at 20% in 2000 and dropped at 2010.” Use simple, controlled sentences to report each comparison, ensuring the subject and verb agree and that past-tense forms are consistent. Full stops and commas should separate the data points clearly.
