Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant movements, including the rise in “No other language” from 30% to 35%, the increase in “Another language” and “Two other languages” by five percentage points, and the halving of Spanish from 20% to 10%. However, the report is incomplete: it does not give the French figures (15% to 10%) or explain that German stayed at 10%, and it lacks a clear overview of the main pattern. The statement that “Four types” rose is inaccurate, since only three categories increased. The response also contains 98 words, below the required 150, which limits the detail and comparisons provided. Develop a fuller summary with accurate coverage of the categories and their values.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to group the information: the opening introduces the charts, and the following sentences describe changes over time. Some comparisons are understandable, particularly the statement that Spanish “reduced by half.” However, the response has no clear paragraph development, and the final sentence is difficult to follow because it combines a list, repeated figures and “first…second…third” without clear links. “Moreover” does not connect the unchanged German figure naturally to the increases. Organise the report into a brief introduction, an overview, and a paragraph comparing the categories that rose or stayed stable with those that fell. Use linking expressions to clarify relationships rather than joining several points in one sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportions,” “declined,” “increased,” and “remain the same,” so the main trends can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward: “talk more languages in additionally to English” and “Four types from given languages rose” do not express the intended meaning naturally. “Reduced by half” is understandable, though “fell by half” is more idiomatic for a chart description. There is also a spelling error in “lamguages.” Use precise terms such as “speak additional languages,” “categories,” and “percentage points,” and check spelling and collocations. This would make the report clearer and more appropriate to an academic summary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and a longer sentence, but grammatical control is inconsistent and the range of structures is limited. For example, “who could be able to talk” combines two ways of expressing ability, while “over the period of decade” is missing an article. In “German remain the same,” the verb does not agree with its subject, and the sentence beginning “Four types…” lacks a clear grammatical structure for presenting the figures. Punctuation is also insufficient in the final sentence, making the list hard to interpret. Practise accurate comparative sentences, such as “The proportion speaking Spanish fell from 20% to 10%, while German remained unchanged at 10%.” Clear, controlled sentences should come before more complex constructions.
