Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You include figures from both years and identify several relevant categories, including Spanish, French, German, and students speaking no other language. However, the account is difficult to interpret and does not clearly summarise the main changes. For example, you say Spanish and French “are combine with 10% and 10%,” but do not explain that Spanish fell from 20% to 10% while French fell from 15% to 10%. You also describe “two other language 15%” as the same as in 2000, although it rose from 10% to 15%, and call the 35% figure “drastic” without a clear comparison. Give a concise overview of the largest trends, then report accurate comparisons for the categories.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each year, and a concluding overview. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression between points is often unclear, and the conclusion repeats or muddles details rather than drawing the comparisons together. Phrases such as “not only this” and “further looking at the graph” do not clearly signal the relationship between the figures, while the final sentence lists categories without explaining their changes. Organise the body around comparisons—for example, categories that decreased, increased, or stayed constant—and use straightforward linking phrases such as “by contrast” and “meanwhile” accurately.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “pie chart,” and “overall,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the report harder to understand, such as “cursury glance,” “combine,” “drastic,” and “no ther language.” Some expressions are also unnatural for describing chart data, including “same like past” and “increasing No other language.” Aim for precise, conventional reporting language and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe a figure as “remained unchanged,” “increased to,” or “accounted for,” rather than relying on vague phrases such as “same like past.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to use longer sentence forms, including “A cursury glance at the graph is adequate enought to reveal that…” and “it can be clearly seen that…”. However, sentence structures are often incomplete or inaccurately formed, which sometimes obscures the intended meaning. The opening has a singular subject with “pie chart show,” and the first-year description breaks into fragments: “two another language and german only 10%.” Agreement and sentence boundaries also cause problems in “35% are drastic no other language.” Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check singular/plural agreement and punctuation. A simpler, accurate pattern such as “The proportion for German remained at 10%” would improve clarity.
