Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify some relevant figures, including 30% with no other language in 2000 and 35% in 2010, and mention several language categories. However, the response is only a brief list rather than a summary of the charts: it gives no clear overview of the main changes, and several figures are missing or unclear. For example, the 2010 figures for French and Spanish are combined as “10, 10%,” while the 2000 figure for French is omitted. The opening “15%” is not linked to a category. The response also falls well short of the required 150 words. To improve, report the main patterns, compare the two years, and include the key categories accurately in connected sentences.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response separates information for 2000 and 2010, which gives the reader a basic sense of the two chart periods. However, the entries are mostly fragments and isolated numbers, so there is little logical progression or connection between the details. The standalone “10” between the two sections is especially unclear, and there are no linking expressions to show comparisons or changes over time. Organise the response into a short introduction, an overview, and paragraphs comparing the figures. Use clear links such as “whereas,” “by contrast,” and “while” to connect related information, and make sure every number is attached to the category and year it describes.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use several task-relevant terms, including “British Students,” “languages,” “speak,” and “two other languages,” so the basic topic is recognisable. However, the vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, and spelling errors sometimes make categories difficult to identify: “spainsh” and “franch” should be “Spanish” and “French.” Phrases such as “no ther languages” are also unclear, while “speak” is repeated without more precise reporting language. Build a small range of accurate chart vocabulary, such as “accounted for,” “the proportion of students,” and “remained unchanged,” and use the category labels consistently. Check spelling and capitalisation of language names before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The response communicates some figures through short, simple constructions, but it contains very little complete sentence structure and shows limited grammatical range. For example, “15% of British Students able to speak languages…” has no main verb, and “10 % speaks german” does not form a clear, accurate report of a chart figure. The fragments also make relationships between the numbers difficult to understand. Practise writing complete sentences with a subject and verb, such as “In 2000, 20% of students spoke Spanish.” Then use comparison structures to describe change, for example, “The proportion speaking Spanish fell from 20% to 10%.”
