Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two years and report several relevant figures, including the 30% with no other language in 2000 and the rise to 35% in 2010. You also note the increases for another language and two other languages, and the falls for Spanish and French. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: “most of the students used English in 2010” does not describe the chart, which shows the largest group spoke no other language. The final phrase, “And decreased in,” is unfinished, and the response does not fully summarise the main pattern. It is also 19 words below the required minimum, limiting the detail and development of the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two years, and a concluding overview. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “In addition” help signal movement through the information. However, progression is weakened by unclear links and abrupt or incomplete statements, especially the ending “And decreased in.” The conclusion also introduces an unclear claim about students using English rather than summarising the chart’s categories. Some transitions are mechanical, and the 2000 paragraph groups figures without making the comparisons especially clear. Organise the report around the main changes between years, and use linking phrases to show those comparisons explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportions,” “approximately,” “increased,” and “decreased,” so the reader can generally identify the intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “British leaners,” “pupils of english language,” and “used to spoke in french language.” These expressions make parts of the report difficult to interpret and sometimes confuse language ability with English-language study. Spelling and capitalisation errors, including “unversity,” “spanish,” and “french,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise terms such as “students who spoke Spanish” and “the proportion with no other language,” and check spelling and language names.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the basic meaning of several comparisons is recoverable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to understand. For example, “30 percent of pupils were not used other languages” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “15 percent students used to spoke” combines forms incorrectly. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “in 2000,in England university,” and the final “And decreased in” is incomplete. Use straightforward, complete patterns such as “Thirty per cent of students spoke no other language” and “The proportion speaking Spanish fell to 10%.”
