Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two years and report several relevant proportions, including 30% for no other language in 2000 and 35% in 2010. You also note the broad rise in this category and the lower figures for Spanish and French in 2010. However, the overview is unclear: “The decline in 2000 had german only and 2010 had spanish, french and garman” does not accurately explain the main changes. German stayed at 10%, while Spanish fell from 20% and French from 15%. You also incorrectly give two other languages as 20% in 2010; it was 15%. The response contains 140 words, below the required 150, and the shortfall limits how fully you can report and compare the data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, useful structure: an introduction and overview are followed by separate paragraphs for 2000 and 2010. This makes the year-by-year information reasonably easy to locate. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and the repeated openings “In context of 2000” and “In context of 2010” sound mechanical. Connections between comparisons are also weak; for example, the figures are mostly listed rather than linked to show how categories changed between years. Some punctuation spacing makes boundaries between ideas unclear, such as “20 %and similar.” Use a clearer overview, then group categories by increases, decreases, and unchanged figures, with linking phrases such as “by contrast” and “while.”

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to identify the chart’s subject and categories, and terms such as “proportions,” “decline,” and “highest” show an attempt to describe data. However, the range is basic and repetitive, especially in phrases such as “highest speaking languages” and “second high speak.” Several spelling errors—“campare,” “langauages,” “engalish,” and “garman”—make the writing less clear and reduce precision. Some word combinations are also unnatural, including “similar spoken language” and “two other languaged.” Aim to use standard chart language consistently, such as “accounted for,” “the largest proportion,” and “the figure for,” and check spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You use simple sentences to report individual figures, and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, the range of sentence structures is very limited, and frequent errors in sentence formation and grammar sometimes obscure meaning. For example, “no other language had increasted in 2000 to 2010” has an incorrect verb form and time expression; “The 2010 was second high…” is not a complete, well-formed comparison; and “The lowest speaking langauges was…” has a subject–verb agreement problem. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or incorrectly used. Practise accurate patterns such as “The proportion of students speaking no other language increased from 30% to 35%” and vary these with simple comparative clauses.
