Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several important comparisons, including the rise in students reporting another language (15% to 20%) and two other languages (10% to 15%), and the fall in Spanish and French. However, the overview is weakened by repeatedly referring to 2020 rather than 2000, which makes the time frame unclear. Some figures are also misreported: in 2000, Spanish was 20%, French and another language were each 15%, and German and two other languages were each 10%; your account later assigns Spanish 20% correctly but describes the categories inconsistently. The opening also says “10 years decades,” which obscures the period. Focus on an accurate overview of the main shifts, then support it with clearly labelled figures for both years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is an attempt to organise the response into an overview followed by separate descriptions of 2000 and 2010, and contrast markers such as “in contrast” help signal comparisons. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the years are repeatedly confused, and the first paragraph combines overview points with detailed figures without a clear structure. Several ideas are repeated, especially that “no others language” had the highest proportion. Linking phrases are sometimes used inaccurately or awkwardly, and references such as “both” do not always make clear which categories are meant. Use a concise overview, followed by one paragraph for each year or a direct comparison of the main changes, and ensure each sentence has a clear referent.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportions,” “noticeable growth,” “decrease,” and “no change,” showing some awareness of the language needed to describe data. However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to interpret: “porpotions,” “higest,” “graman,” and “ovaer” are examples. Phrases such as “hold highest proportions,” “mark second highest position,” and “increased in 5%” are not natural collocations for chart reporting. Category labels also need to be reproduced consistently, for example “no other language” and “another language.” Build a small set of accurate expressions for describing proportions, increases, decreases, and unchanged figures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and longer comparisons, but sentence structures are often incomplete or faulty, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “overall no others language is hold higest proportions” has problems with sentence construction, verb form, and agreement; “others language and two others language have increased in 5%” also has incorrect agreement and a faulty prepositional pattern. Tense and time references are inconsistent, particularly the repeated use of “2020” for the chart years. Punctuation and capitalisation are also unreliable, with several run-on sentences and missing sentence boundaries. Practise writing short, complete comparison sentences first, checking subject–verb agreement and past-tense forms before combining ideas.
