Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main overall feature that the “no other language” group was largest, and you report several relevant changes, including its rise from 30% to 35% and the fall in Spanish. However, the account is only partial and contains important data errors: French fell from 15% to 10%, not from 20%, and the share speaking two other languages rose from 10% to 15%, not 25%. The claim that German and French were the lowest categories in 2000 is also inaccurate, since German and two other languages were both 10%. The response is 143 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 11 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Check each figure against the chart and include a clearer overview of the main shifts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction, gives an overview, and then describes changes between the two years. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Similarly,” and “In contrast” help signal relationships. However, progression is not consistently clear. The final paragraph repeats the contrast between Spanish and French, while “In contrast” is used twice without always making the relationship between points clear. The discussion also moves between categories without a consistent grouping, and “Germany was only one language that remain unchanged” repeats an earlier point. Group the increases and decreases in a logical order, and use references such as “this figure” only when the category is unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “remained unchanged,” so the reader can generally understand the comparisons you intend to make. However, the range is limited and some word choices or forms are inaccurate: “Germany language” should refer to “German,” and “the student who could speak” is awkward when describing a group or proportion. Spelling errors such as “piecharts” and “incresed,” along with inconsistent capitalisation of “English,” reduce accuracy. Aim for precise category labels and varied reporting verbs, while checking spelling and whether a noun refers to people, a language, or a percentage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the basic meaning is usually recoverable. However, grammatical errors occur frequently, and sentence patterns are often limited. For example, “the student who could speak no other language contain highest percentage” has problems with number agreement, verb form, and article use; “the germany language proportion remain unchanged” also has agreement and tense errors. The opening phrase “between 2000 and 20210 year” is not grammatically well formed, and several comparisons omit necessary articles or use awkward singular forms such as “student.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and plural subjects, and build longer sentences only after checking that each clause has a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
